Consumer devices are engineered for mobile use, catering to a wide array of on-the-go activities and diverse user needs. This versatility is reflected in the multitude of pre-installed applications that continuously run in the background. Users interact with these devices frequently, managing them on a daily basis. Consequently, these devices are not designed for long-term, permanent installation scenarios. Features like rechargeable batteries, while ideal for portable use, emphasize the temporary nature of consumer technology, which is optimized for flexibility and frequent replacement rather than sustained, stationary operation.
Consumer devices rely on batteries that are not suitable for constant use and become ineffective very quickly when constantly plugged in. They can swell, corrode, and leak acid, which will ruin the device and can be a fire hazard.
After power outages, consumer devices won't automatically boot up and start the music streaming app, requiring manual intervention.
Consumer devices have media sounds and keyboard clicks that will interfere with your background music, creating an unprofessional experience.
Employees can potentially access unauthorized apps and websites on consumer devices, posing security risks.
Consumer devices are not capable of utilizing the majority of our remote control management features, due to their operating system. See below for more details.

Configure device to Master Account
We will not set up your device for you. As this is a consumer device, all configurations must be performed manually on each device. Our F.A.Q page can help assist.
We configure each KrossKast Player for you to your Master Account, so when the KrossKast Player arrives, it is plug-and-play.
Set up time zone
You will manually have to set your device's time zone on each device, for each location. If this is not set properly, then your music will turn on/off at the wrong time and not aligned with store hours.
The KrossKast Player's time zone (to trigger events such as automatic start/stop time) will be initially configured for you.
Mute sound interferences
You will manually have to mute all sound interferences (including all keyboard sound clicks, alert sounds, notification sounds, etc.) on each device, for each location.
All sound interferences are muted for you (including all keyboard sounds clicks, alert sounds, notification sounds, etc., are turned off).
Uniformed equipment
Consumer devices range in a variety of makes, models, and different hardware, causing inefficiency and confusion.
Across all of your locations, your employees will be using the same device, thus streamlining your process and support needs, while expanding your corporation.
Customized operating system (OS)
Consumer devices limit remote control capabilities and are preloaded with many applications that are constantly running in the background.
Our Operating System only has our KrossKast Apps installed, simplifying your operations, while preventing your employees from logging into nefarious applications and websites.

Bluetooth
Although you can use Bluetooth to stream music, Bluetooth is considered consumer grade.
The KrossKast Player comes equipped with Bluetooth. However, a hardwire audio connection to an amplifier is recommended instead of Bluetooth for stability and reliability.
WiFi capability
Although you can connect to WiFi, it is considered a consumer grade connection.
WiFi connection is available. However, we recommend using our Ethernet port for best speed and reliability.
Ethernet port
Consumer devices do not have an Ethernet port as they are not designed for commercial environments.
The KrossKast Player has an Ethernet port. Ethernet connection are considered professional grade for commercial environments.
3.5mm audio port
Maybe. An audio converter may be required for consumer devices that only have USB-C or Thunderbolt port.
The KrossKast Player has a 3.5mm audio port to plug into your amplifier.
Power outages
Even though a battery may temporarily hold a charge, constant charging quickly depletes battery health, resulting in a battery that is weak or no longer holding a charge. Batteries in consumer devices should not be relied on in commercial environments. When a consumer device's battery no longer holds a charge (from constant charging) an employee will need to manually launch the app to resume music when power is restored.
Zero human interaction needed. The KrossKast Player will automatically turn itself back on when power is restored. Our KrossKast Play does not have a battery, achieving long-term use in demanding commercial environments. The KrossKast Player will automatically launch and resume playing music when the power is restored.
Back up music
When internet is lost on a consumer device, music will temporarily stop until internet is restored. An employee will need to manually click play to resume music after your internet is restored.
The KrossKast Player has built in back up music that will automatically play while your internet is down and return to normal programming when internet is restored.

From your Master Account, you can monitor Zones that have played music in the past 24 hours.

Software updates
You will need to update to our latest app releases on each device in each location. A consumer device's operating system does not offer the ability for KrossKast to manage your updates.

Consumer devices are not considered dedicated devices because they have many unnecessary applications running in the background, which increases security vulnerabilities, performance issues, and should not be relied on for critical tasks.
The KrossKast Player is a dedicated device that only has our apps installed. By limiting software and user interactions, a dedicated device reduces potential security vulnerabilities. In addition, they perform better as they are free from unnecessary apps, while maintaining optimal configurations and focusing on critical tasks.
